Section 136 training videos

These training videos, developed by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, are intended to support improved practice for patients detained in a place of safety under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.

Section 136 empowers police constables to remove someone who appears to them to be mentally disordered while they are in place to which the public have access and appears to be in immediate need of care. Police constables can take them to a place of safety for the purposes assessments and arrangements to be made about their treatment or care.

A place of safety is defined as hospital, a police station, a residential units or anywhere else where the occupier is willing to receive care.
