NICE Guidelines CG133: Longer-term care and treatment of self-harm

NICE Guidelines CG133: Longer-term care and treatment of self-harmThis clinical guideline, published by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), offers evidence-based advice on the longer-term treatment and management of self-harm.

It follows on from Self-harm: the short-term physical and psychological management and secondary prevention of self-harm in primary and secondary care (NICE clinical guideline 16), which covered the treatment of self-harm within the first 48 hours of an incident.

This guideline is concerned with the longer-term psychological treatment of both single and recurrent episodes of self-harm, and does not include recommendations for the physical treatment of self-harm or for psychosocial management in emergency departments.

It will be useful to clinicians and service commissioners in providing and planning high-quality care for people who self-harm while also emphasising the importance of the experience of care for people who self-harm and their carers.
