The Mental Health, Dementia and Neurological Conditions summit led by the Strategic Clinical Network for Mental Health, Dementia and Neurological Conditions Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria was held on the 26 September 2013 at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.
The summit was chaired by Dr Peter Elton and attended by over 190 delegates including three key note speakers from NHS England: Dr Geraldine Strathdee (National Clinical Director for Mental Health), Dr David Bateman (National Clinical Director for Neurological Conditions) and Professor Alistair Burns (National Clinical Director for Dementia).
The key note speakers outlined the emerging priorities for their areas and the role of the SCN to support those priorities. Janet Ratcliffe (SCN and Senate Associate Director) provided an update on the progress and work in partnership with the new clinical leads: Kenneth Woods (Dementia), Dr Arokia Antonysamy (Mental Health) and Dr Mark Kellett (Neurological Conditions) . Maqsood Ahmad (SCN Manager) outlined the commitment of the SCN and the Senate to involve patients, carers and members of the public.
The morning and the afternoon round table discussions, led by clinical leads provided and opportunity for delegates to identify issues, challenges, ambitions and focus on setting priorities for the footprint. A full report will be written outlining a way forward and some of the emerging priorities as identified by delegates.
